Cambridge Police Department "Rock" Lions

Lion Tom Cahoon introduced Patrolman David Peoples to the Cambridge Lions. Dave spoke about a new project that the Jerry Dragison FOP Lodge # 10 has begun to collect funds toward the purchase of a K9 Unit for the Cambridge Police Department. Dave discussed the benefits of having a K9 unit on the force as well as the costs associated with purchasing and day to day operations with the animal. Patrolman Peoples introduced Seargant John Bumba of the Martins Ferry PD and his K9 partner, Rock. Rock is a dual purpose officer. He is trained for use in drug enforcement as well as tracking work. He is a 3 year old Belgian Malinois weighing in at around 90 pounds. Sgt. Bumba and Rock demonstrated how they search for ilicit substances and "hit" on drugs hidden from sight. Patrolman Peoples willingly donned a safety suit to demonstrate Rock's attack ability and comand capacity. All of Rock's comands are issued in German, and Sgt. Bumba never had to raise his voice in order for his partner to respond. Our thanks to Patrolmen David Peoples and Sam Williams, Sgt. John Bumba, and Rock.
